The Swim Classification Record (file included above) lists out the requirements for the swim testing. A lifeguard will preside over the individual tests. If your scout would like to practice for the scout the details are included here:
SWIMMER’S TEST:
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75
yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: side stroke,
breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting back stroke.
The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After
completing the swim, rest by floating. NOTE: WHEN TURNING AROUND AT 50 YARDS, THE SCOUT CAN NOT TOUCH THE WALL, THEY MUST TURN AROUND WITHOUT TOUCHING IT.
BEGINNER’S TEST:
Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface,
stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.
Anyone who has not completed the beginner or swimmer tests is classified as a nonswimmer.
Any scout less than 48" tall will need to swim one full length of the pool (25 yards) on their front (freestyle, breast stroke) without aid, stopping or touching the wall in order to be able to use the big blue water slide during free time.
