Scouting for Food

posted Mar 2, 2015, 8:31 AM by Webmaster Pack30

This year we will be teaming up with Troop 9 for the Scouting for Food service project. They have run it in the past, and do a great job at it. The job itself is not difficult, but we need all the help we can get, as we have a relatively large area to cover. Troop 9 provides maps, and you will be assigned to a specific section when you arrive. We would like to see you there both weekends, but if that’s not possible, please try to make at least one of them.

·         Saturday, March 14th, 2015 – Bag Drop Off Day

o   We will meet at 9:00 am in the Hadfield School parking lot.

o   Scouts must be in uniform for this. If it’s cold, please dress appropriately.

o   We follow the buddy system, so you will be paired up before we depart.

o   On this day, we only tie the bags to the front doors. We don’t ring doorbells.
If the residents are outside, we mention that this is “Scouting for Food” and they should fill the bag with non-perishable food items and set them on the porch for pick up the following week.

o   This is the most time consuming weekend as we have to go to every door, so the more help we have this day the better.

o   Don’t forget to take a bag home with you to drop off at our March 18th Pack meeting, or during the Pick-up day on March 21st. See the list below for items to bring.

·         Saturday, March 21st, 2015 – Bag Pick Up

o   We will meet at 9:00 am in the Hadfield School parking lot.

o   Scouts must be in uniform.

o   Again we will hand out maps, and the scouts will run up to the houses to pick up food.

o   We could use some volunteer drivers for this as well.

I hope to see all of you there. This is one of the few very visible ways our Pack can be seen in the community helping others.

Items we collect: Non-perishable food items (canned meats, canned fruits, canned vegetables, soups, pasta, baby food, dry milk, cereal, etc.) and Toiletries (toilet paper, Kleenex, shampoo, soap, diapers, detergents, etc.)
