River Rats 2018

posted May 10, 2018, 8:01 AM by Matt Wagner
Pack 30 represented well at River Rats this year. We had 63 people in attendance, and it was a beautiful weekend for camping. We camped in Hawk Ridge as we have so many times in the past for this event, and as we were setting up a few of our scouts noticed a hawk flying overhead.

This was an exceptionally large group of participants this year. Since there were so many, the schedule changed slightly. It was heavily weighted toward the shooting sports (always a scout favorite), with two stations for BB Guns, one for Archery and a Wrist Rocket (sling shots) rotation, which was a first for Week 1. Additionally there was a climbing wall, Slack Line, and, of course, Ga-ga ball. Orienteering (another new event), fire building and a rousing round of kickball rounded out the day.

Since there were so many shooting sports this year, the Council offered Range Master training for adults that were attending. We had 6 parents and leaders volunteer, which allowed the certified Range Masters to rotate in and out of various stations, but still spend time with their scout.

There were some heavy showers early (2:20am) Sunday morning, which scared off a few other Packs, however Pack 30 stood strong most of our attendees were there for eggs, bacon and cinnamon rolls in the morning.

It was a great weekend, although tiring, and it looked like all of the Scouts had a great time with it.

All scouts that attended received their shooting sports patch, and pin for all three Cub Scout level shooting sports.
