Aug. Pack Event - One Foot Hike

posted Aug 10, 2015, 9:38 PM by Matt Wagner
On Saturday, August 29th at 10:00am, we’ll be meeting at Frame Park (near the Rotary Building) to perform a One Foot Hike.

For those not familiar with these, each scout will be tasked with finding a 1 square foot area to examine with their eyes and/or magnifying glass (if they bring one), and try to find some of the things that often go unnoticed when we walk through nature.

We’ll spend 5-7 minutes examining a section, mapping what we saw, and writing down as many different things we can find.

We’ll then spend a little time listening to nature and trying to determine what the different sounds are we hear.

What to bring:

  • -          A Magnifying glass (one you’re willing to let your scout use).
  • -          A pen or pencil to write with.
  • -          A magazine/notebook/clipboard to write on.
  • -          A scout t-shirt or uniform.

These kind of activities can take 30-45 minutes, depending on how interested the scouts are.

When we’re done, feel free to stop by the Waukesha Farmers Market just West of the park, or spend some time at the playground on the East end of the park.

This can be a fun activity to invite a friend to as well. I hope to see you there.
